In 2007, the Methane to Markets Partnership successfully organized the first Partnership Expo in Beijing, China. More than 750 attendees from 34 countries gathered to advance methane recovery and use projects around the world. The Partnership showcased 91 projects from 11 countries across all four Methane to Markets sectors.
Building on this achievement, Methane to Markets will be holding a second Partnership Expo in New Delhi, India, from 2 – 5 March 2010.
These dates are approaching quickly, so now is the time to

The 2010 Partnership Expo will feature four sector-specific conference tracks, sector-specific
site tours, and discussions about the methane marketplace. Participants will have

We look forward to seeing you in New Delhi!
Now you can preview the Partnership Expo's
preliminary agenda (PDF, 16 pp, 692 KB), which details the schedule for
sector-specific site tours, information sessions, Steering Committee meetings, and
roundtable discussions. The first day includes site tours and the Steering Committee
meeting. The second day will continue with an opening plenary session on the future
of the Methane to Markets Partnership and a keynote address on "The Importance
of Methane to Climate Change and Copenhagen Outcomes," followed by sector-specific
sessions. The second day will conclude with a reception sponsored by the
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)
of India.
On the third day, you can attend continued sector-specific technical and policy breakout sessions. The final day concludes with a plenary session that will provide a wrap-up of Expo highlights and future perspectives from the Steering Committee as well as sector Subcommittee meetings.

India is ideally suited to showcase a range of methane projects and opportunities. With the world's second largest population and as the second largest emitter of anthropogenic methane, India holds increasing potential for methane capture and use projects in each of the four Methane to Markets sectors. India's rapid economic growth, increased urbanization, and rising energy consumption create a perfect balance of opportunity and demand for methane recovery and use.
India is diligently working to capture methane from sources within the four Methane to Markets sectors (estimated to be 84.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent). At the same time, India is also addressing barriers and increasing awareness of methane recovery-challenges common to all Partner Governments.
India is a charter Partner of the Methane to Markets
Partnership and participates on the Steering Committee and on all of the sector
subcommittees. As the world's third largest coal producer, India has great potential
to develop coal mine methane (CMM) projects. Through the Partnership, India has
established a clearinghouse to provide access to information and data that help
developers pursue CMM projects. India has also been increasing its activity in the
oil and gas sector through the work of the state-owned ONGC. In collaboration with
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ONGC evaluated the opportunities for vented
and fugitive methane emissions reductions at several facilities and is currently
implementing practices and installing technologies to reduce those emissions and
identify opportunities at other locations.
Additionally, India has several potential projects in the landfill sector. It is
conducting numerous pre-feasibility studies and assessments to better understand
the potential at individual sites. India's first landfill gas project came online
this year. The Gorai Landfill, outside Mumbai, earned U.S. $5.2 million for carbon
credits for flaring captured gas and is planning to develop an energy use project
in the near future. Finally, India has been active in the Methane to Markets agriculture
sector since 2006. There are dozens of ongoing small and large-scale anaerobic digester
projects across the country, with more in the development stages. In support of
the Partnership, The Energy and Resources Institute, a Project Network member, organized
an interactive workshop on anaerobic digesters in March 2009 and the Federation
of Indian Chambers of Commerce (the Expo in-country partner) is planning a
workshop
on agriculture methane issues in January 2010.

India's capital city, New Delhi, has changed dramatically in the last five decades, from a relatively sleepy city to a bustling metropolis with wide roads, stately monuments, and a vibrant nightlife. The 2010 Partnership Expo provides an ideal opportunity to explore this city and nearby sites. The nearby Lodhi Gardens are a beautiful park spread over 90 acres that contains the tombs of Mohammed Shah and Sikander Lodi. The gardens are situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung's tomb. Another nearby site worth seeing is a complex of buildings built as the Mughal Emperor Humayun's tomb. It was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent.
The Expo will be held at the
