Introduction

We are a Consultancy service. We combine mining engineering, rock mechanics and reservoir engineering concepts to appraise methane content of abandoned underground coal mines. We use mines archives to construct the bulk volume of the mine reservoirs. Based on a model of distribution of vertical stress in the plan of mined out coal seams, we estimate the variability of the porosity within the reservoir thus, the residual space volumes of the reservoirs. The mine reservoirs are considered as sets of nested annular parallelipipeds of residual porosities. Then assuming that the residual voids are saturated with methane, we calculate the potential reserves of the gas.
