In the race to carbon neutrality, it is necessary to ensure that mitigation policies and investments are performing efficiently and abating emissions effectively. As a result, performance monitoring will be an indispensable step to guarantee not only successful mitigation actions, but also assertive climate finance flows.
The Integrated Global Greenhouse Gas Information System (IG3IS) combines atmospheric GHG concentration measurements with human-activity data in a modelling and analysis framework to help decision-makers take better informed action to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants that reduce air quality. As a user-oriented initiative, IG3IS will consult with critical stakeholders about the path forward and tailor its capabilities to their needs.
This is the first episode of a series of consultations that will bring together users, scientists and civil society to discuss how to upscale IG3IS activities across countries, regions, cities and sectors. The consultations will also reflect on examples where observation-based information was successfully utilized to guide climate action.
The first session will take place from 2:00-3:30 PM UTC on 26 October 2020 and will focus on cities and urban objectives.
The second session will take place from 2:00-3:30 PM UTC on 27 October 2020 and will focus on anthropogenic & natural methane emissions.
