Penn State University is a major research institution in the United States. The Alliance for Earth Sciences, Engineering, and Development in Africa (AESEDA) is a multidisciplinary research hub focusing on development issues in Africa. In the area of Methane to Markets, we see this as an opportunity for African nations to partner with developed countries to solve the solid waste problems in many urban areas while at the same time generating electricity that is often in short supply. We will seek to work with our growing partner institutions in Africa who are located in South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Ghana and Kenya to turn the solid waste problem into an economic boom. By working with local institutions in Africa, we will ensure that the solutions that are developed are both practical and sustainable over the long term. |
